The spirit of exploration and discovery!
At the end of the 18th century, Louis Antoine de Bougainville landed on Isle de France and introduced a large variety of plants, including robust and tasty sugarcane varieties from Asia. These played a key role in shaping the island’s plantations and rum heritage.
This exquisite 100% Mauritian molasses rum is a tribute to the navigator cum naturalist, crafted in small batches with four generations of Oxenham expertise, using traditional techniques and locally sourced ingredients.

The Bougainville rum range consists of six pure single rums:
Bougainville White, Bougainville Gold, Bougainville VS, Bougainville VSOP, Bougainville XO, Bougainville Hors d’Age
and three rum-based spirits:
Bougainville Vieux Domaine, Bougainville Vanilla, Bougainville Lemongrass.
Each of these offers a unique blend of structures, perfumes and aromas.

Our Process
Transformation of molasses
Water is added to dilute molasses
Fermented at 18°C for 1–2 weeks, enhancing aroma and flavour.
Distillation
Determination of type of rum to be produced. The product of the rum distillation process flows out in three distinct stages, namely: the head, the heart and the tail. We exclusively retain the heart for our rums.
Ageing of our rum
Our mixed-maturation molasses rum rests in an exclusive selection of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks, each enriching the spirit with its own distinctive depth and character.
Bottling of our rum
The rum is bottled with care to preserve its distinct characteristics so typical of the Bougainville Rums.
