The botanist in the bottle!
Seven core botanicals & two signature florals for a lavish and complex sophistication

The authentically Mauritian, craft-distilled, Pierre Poivre Gin uses exclusively all-natural components. A voyage into unchartered territories, its seven core botanicals, resonate with one another for the creation of a sublime symphony. These include juniper berries, angelica roots, coriander seeds, cassia bark, elderflower, Seville orange zest and the character-defining combava zest. This rich array composes the lavish aromatic canvas of the Original Pierre Poivre Gin and sets its innate complexity and sophistication. Upon it are individually grafted two signature flavours, both derived from amazing edible flowers growing in Mauritius. So to speak, we’ve encapsulated the botanist in the bottle!

The original
Bold and smooth
The Original Pierre Poivre Gin is as outstanding as its inspirer and presents a delightfully complex and beautifully balanced botanical bill.
The matchless combava is, of all citrus fruits, one of the most explosively aromatic. There is simply no substitute of an equal character to its crisp, zesty freshness.
It is the perfect match to resonate with the herbal, lemony and warmer notes of other core botanicals. In turn, they allow it to exhale its bold, flavourful and smooth exotic character.
Butterfly Pea Flower
The Wow! Factor
Delightfully complex and intriguing, the lemony taste of our locally-grown edible butterfly pea flowers perfectly complements Pierre Poivre Gin’s core botanicals.
With its eye-catching crystalline violet hue, it is a seductive go-to for any mixologist willing to explore the world of specialty cocktails.
Building on the citrusy complexity of The Original, it brings to taste an intriguing layer of vegetal hints that blossom into a warm finish. In its natural indigo blue tincture also reside some other magical faculties. Prepare to be wowed…

Roselle Hibiscus
The flourish!
Mauritius’ fertile basalt makes the Roselle thrive beautifully, which values our island to be listed as one of its notable volcanic terroirs across the world.
As worldwide bartending takes on tropical inspirations, this edible hibiscus has become a favourite complement to novel creative cocktails. Its vibrant flavour and colour bring a sophisticated gin’s flavours to life.
Our signature Roselle Hibiscus Pierre Poivre Gin presents a pleasurably tart mouthfeel. Its earthy complexity resonates with the earthy notes of The Original, creating an exquisitely creamy flourish.

Pierre Poivre
The smuggler & rebellious hero
Famous intendant of Isle de France from 1767-1773 and a daring French botanist. Pierre Poivre is mainly remembered for the creation of Mauritius’ landmark Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses. He has another dimension that remains unknown to many…
Truth be told, he is in fact the adventurous soul and forward-thinking spirit who, in the mid-18th century, set off to explore the far-off territories of east Asia and East indies, in his hunt for spices and his determination to put and end to Dutch monopoly on the trade – which he did!
He went to such extremes as carrying out clandestine night forays to smuggle spice and other botanical species past the Dutch East Indian Company – a rebellious hero in his own time.
Pierre Poivre introduced to Mauritius some 600 botanical species, including the combava that imprints our gin’s original flavour.

CEDRIC OXENHAM
Master Blender
“Creating an authentically Mauritian botanical gin while positioning it as a future international brand was both challenging and exciting. Our process prioritized creativity and individuality, making it a passionate journey of patience and perseverance.
Since gin has botanical roots, every craft producer tailors their recipe to local botanicals, ensuring uniqueness and adaptability. Our goal was to craft a truly Mauritian gin, distilled in small 300-litre batches, reflecting our distillery’s artisanal approach. This ensures both distinction and finesse, with each new series offering something unique.”

Cedric Affouye
Botanical consultant & horticulturist
“To select the best-suited local botanicals best suited the purpose, their olfactive, gustative and colouring potential were determinant. Combava, butterfly pea flower & roselle hibiscus are time-honoured in South-East Asia for their health, culinary, colouring properties & subtle infused aromas. They are now sought for by refined gastronomy & alcohol creators.
Combava is delivered freshly picked to the distillery, where the zest is finely stripped. Roselle & butterfly pea petals are picked from fresh flowers. Their gentle drying optimises the preservation & distillation of their flavours & pigments in the two floral gins.’’
DAPHNÉ DOOMUN
Preserving nature’s treasures
Attuned to a naturalist’s sensibility, Mauritian artist Daphné Doomun beautifully captures the all natural
essence of Pierre Poivre Craft Distilled Gin in her label illustrations, highlighting against the backdrop of botanicals the endangered Mascarene Paradise Flycatcher.
“Mauritius’s natural beauty inspires me. My illustrations celebrate the beauty of the island’s birds, flowers, and other natural wonders. They are not only a vital part of the island’s ecosystem, but their beauty and resilience are a constant source of inspiration. This gin bottle design captures that essence and serves as a call to conservation.”

Embracing our inspirer’s higher purpose, which was the conservation of nature’s precious gift, and in the same spirit, we attach a valuable cause to Pierre Poivre Gin to shed the limelight on this endangered subspecies of Mascarene birds.
Our purpose is to raise much-needed awareness on the urgency of preventing its population from declining further. To that purpose, Oxenham Ltd financially supports MWF, as a Silver Wildlife Species Champion.
